Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Gurusharan is a spiritual companion for daily Sikh practice. This policy explains what information the app and this website use, why, who helps us process it, how long it’s kept, and how to delete it.
Who we are
Gurusharan (“we”, “us”) is provided by Gurusharan Simran. For privacy questions, contact the Gurusharan Team: shabad.simran.nitnem@gmail.com.
Using Gurusharan without an account
You can read the Hukamnama and Nitnem, practise Simran, and listen to the traditional Ardaas without signing in. Without an account, your practice progress is saved only on your device.
Information we collect
Your account
- Sign-in details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name and profile picture from Google. If you sign in with email, we receive your email address and send you a one-time code.
- Preferences. Your language (English or Punjabi), appearance and notification settings.
Your practice
- Practice history. When you’re signed in, the readings, Simran and Ardaas sessions you complete are saved to your account so you can see your journey across devices.
- Optional reading calibration. If you turn on “Help calibrate this reading”, we record how long you spend on each page of that reading, linked to a random identifier for your installation of the app — not to your account — to improve audio-synced scrolling.
AI Personalized Ardaas
Your Ardaas request can reveal your religious beliefs, health, family circumstances and other sensitive matters. Here is exactly where it goes.
- If you speak your request, the app records it to a temporary file on your phone and sends the recording to Google’s Gemini API, which turns it into text. Our servers don’t keep the recording. The app doesn’t delete that temporary file itself, so it may stay on your phone until your phone’s system removes temporary files or you uninstall the app.
- Your request text is sent to Google’s Gemini API, which writes the personal part of your Ardaas. The traditional sections are fixed text and are never generated.
- To create the audio, the generated personal part — with the short fixed lines that lead into and out of it, but not your original request — is sent to ElevenLabs, which returns a recording of it.
- On our servers, we store your request, the generated text, its title, playback timing information, and the audio file (in private storage for your account), so you can return to it in your Ardaas history. The app streams the audio from our servers and doesn’t save a copy of it itself.
- Deleting an Ardaas removes it from your history. Its audio file stays in private storage until you delete your account.
Google and ElevenLabs receive this information only to provide these features, and handle it under their own terms and privacy policies. We don’t sell your Ardaas requests or use them for advertising.
Sangat
- Shared intentions. When you share an intention, its text and optional category are visible to anyone using Gurusharan — including people who aren’t signed in — for 21 days, or until you remove it. The app doesn’t show your name or email with it. Each intention is stored with your account so we can apply posting limits and let you remove it. Removed and expired intentions are no longer shown, but stay stored with your account until you delete your account.
- Joining, likes and reports. When you hold someone’s intention in Ardaas, like a Sakhi or report an intention, we record that action against your account.
Purchases and Dasvandh
Credits for AI Personalized Ardaas and Dasvandh are in-app purchases made through the App Store or Google Play. We don’t receive your card details. RevenueCat processes purchase information on our behalf, linked to your account, and we keep a record of credits received, used and returned, and of Dasvandh given. When a purchase goes through, we email a receipt to the email address on your account.
Notifications
Daily practice and Hukamnama reminders are scheduled on your device. If you’re signed in and allow push notifications, we store a push token for your device (through Firebase Cloud Messaging) with a random identifier for your installation of the app, and a record of notifications sent.
Advertising
Gurusharan shows ads through Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers and information about your interactions with ads. On iPhone, the app asks your permission before your device’s advertising identifier can be used for tracking. The app also uses Google’s consent tool, which shows a consent form when Google’s settings for Gurusharan require one in your region. You can also limit ad tracking in your device’s privacy settings.
This website
This website doesn’t use analytics or advertising and sets no cookies for visitors. It’s hosted by Vercel, which processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver pages. If you delete your account here, the email address and code you enter are sent to Supabase, our sign-in provider, to confirm the account is yours; this website doesn’t store them.
How we use information
- To provide the app: sign-in, saving your practice, creating and replaying your Ardaas, and Sangat.
- To process purchases and keep an accurate credit balance.
- To send the reminders and notifications you choose.
- To keep Sangat safe: posting limits, automatic filters, and hiding reported intentions.
- To show ads that keep the traditional recitations free.
Service providers
These companies receive information to provide the features described above. Some — such as Google for ads — also use it under their own privacy policies.
- Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in the United States (US East).
- Google — Google Sign-In; the Gemini API (transcription and Ardaas generation); AdMob (ads); Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications).
- ElevenLabs — creating the audio of your personal Ardaas.
- RevenueCat — processing in-app purchases.
- Apple and Google — app distribution and payments, under their own privacy policies.
- Resend — sending sign-in codes and purchase receipts by email.
- Vercel — hosting this website.
Today’s Hukamnama and its recitation are fetched by our servers from BaniDB and SGPC; your device doesn’t contact them, and no personal information is sent to them. Our database and file storage are in the United States, and the providers above process information in the countries where they operate.
How long we keep information
We don’t delete information automatically after a set period. Instead:
- Your account, preferences, practice history, notification records and Sangat activity are kept until you delete your account.
- An Ardaas is kept until you delete it or your account; its audio file is kept until you delete your account.
- Reports you make are kept until you delete your account.
- Records of past purchases are kept after you delete your account, with your account details removed.
- Copies of deleted information may remain in our hosting provider’s backups.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app, or on this website without the app — see Delete your account. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, preferences, practice history, Ardaas history, credit balance and history, Dasvandh record, Sangat activity (including removed and expired intentions), notification records and push tokens.
As separate steps, we also try to delete your Ardaas audio files and ask RevenueCat to delete your purchase profile. If either step fails, your account is still deleted; any audio files left behind stay in private storage, and RevenueCat keeps the profile under its own policies.
Records of past purchases are kept with your account details removed. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases. Calibration timings aren’t linked to your account and aren’t affected. Unspent credits are lost when you delete your account.
Your choices and rights
- Use Gurusharan without an account.
- Delete individual Ardaas, remove your shared intentions, or delete your whole account yourself.
- Turn reminders and notifications on or off in the app’s settings and your device settings.
- Decline tracking on iPhone, and limit ad tracking in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct or receive a copy of your information, to ask us to delete it, to object to or restrict some uses of it, and to withdraw consent you’ve given. You can delete your account yourself at any time — see Delete your account. For any other request, email the Gurusharan Team at shabad.simran.nitnem@gmail.com. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where Gurusharan is offered
Gurusharan isn’t currently offered in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. If that changes, we’ll update this policy first.
Children
Gurusharan is only for people aged 18 and over. Please don’t use it if you’re under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, it can be deleted at any time — see Delete your account.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
